Smart (enough) Systems’ Decision Discovery Process™ is a vendor-neutral service designed to help organizations successfully adopt decision management technology such as business rules, data mining and predictive analytics. Approach

Focusing in on a single business process or business area, Smart (enough) Systems’ consultants will identify, describe and prioritize operational decisions. Smart (enough) Systems has extensive experience in the automation and improvement of operational decisions as well as a formal methodology for conducting the process. Materials available include:

  • Detailed presentation materials to introduce the process

  • Explanations of each stage

  • Educational material for customers to help in their role.

Data about decisions is collected and managed using defined templates based on the Microsoft Office products so that information collected about decisions is readily available to customers after the process is complete. An ROI model for comparing the value of improvement in different decisions and a final report are produced and presented to complete the process.

  • The project is focused on a single business process or business area. This process or business area is identified, bounded and described.

  • The decisions a client sees within this process are identified. Further work is conducted to identify and describe potential or hidden decisions.

  • A standard set of information about the identified decisions is collected like volume, owner, sources of rules, data required, current decision maker etc. Each decision is described and documented for comparison and assessment. The Decision Yield of each decision is assessed, a measure of it precision, consistency, agility, speed and cost. The value of improving each decision, and the technology and process change that are required to do so, are assessed and documented.

  • “Hotspot” analysis of the decisions is conducted to see which decisions should be the focus of immediate projects, given organizational and technical realities.

  • A final report with recommendations for action and estimated returns from these actions is developed and presented.
